FMT PUMP BYPASS ASSEMBLY

Original FMT Pump Bypass Assembly suitable for direct replacement into a range of Fluid Management Technology pumps or more famously known as “FMT”.

This Bypass valve is used to allow fluid to circulate and avoid pressure build up inside the pump housing when the flow is isolated or dead ended while the pump is still running. This prevents potential damage to components of the fuel pump and the accompanying system i.e. diesel hose.

This will be found under the plate on the head of the pump and is very accessible for easy maintenance procedures.

Symptoms of a faulty bypass valve are – No flow, low flow rate, intermittent flow rate, pump not staying primed. Sometimes the bypass valve can just get clogged and jammed with debris drawn through the suction hose and into the pump head, this can cause the bypass valve to get stuck in an open or closed position causing the issues mentioned above.

To prevent this is, a good suggestion is to install a foot valve, better know as a non return valve fitted with a basket strainer to stop particles of debris before they are drawn into the pump head. See below for a link to our non return valve page, before selecting check the thread is the correct size, this would  usually be either 3/4″ or 1″ BSP. If you already have a foot valve it maybe time to check it and make sure it hasn’t got jammed open itself by debris from the bottom of the tank.
