Now there is a filter that allows you to easily drain off any water collected from your heating oil.
The Giuliani Anello 3/8″ Water Trap Filter comprises of a clear bowl and drain point so you can easily monitor and remove any water build up within the filter. When you see any trapped water in the filter bowl simply open a valve to drain this off.
Works as a particulate filter with the facility to view and drain off trapped water.
The filter is available with a wall bracket and 2x compression fittings to allow you to connect it to your pipework. A roll of PTFE jointing tape can also be supplied.
We also supply the replacement filter elements and the O-ring seal for the filter bowl. All of these items can be added to your order using the drop menus above. Looks as though it will do the job. Fitting as part of a replacement domestic boiler / fuel tank installation. Not happy with new GRP tanks not having a water / sludge drain tap like the old steel tank it’s replacing so wanted a water trap inline in case of condensation or other water ingress into fuel.

Easy to install in-line filter. It is easy to see water gathering at the bottom through the clear glass and is easily drained through the drain point. I bought a spare filter and O-ring for future maintenance.

Great little device to filter water out of your oil feed. Works well, though some instructions could be useful. The oil separates at the bottom of the clear bowl which stops it shutting down the burn or causing bad combustion. It’s possible to use the nipple at the bottom to drain the water out periodically, though if, like in our current situation this is quite frequent, but still better than having to have the engineer drain the burner feed.
I’d almost say that this should be standard fitment on any oil feed boiler and ~£50 inc fittings is very reasonable insurance and will prevent and highlight any tank issues.

Having experienced problems with contaminated fuel reaching my boiler and shutting it down I was advised by the boiler engineer to fit something like this filter. I replaced the original filter, which allowed no visual inspection of the oil, and was amazed to see the amount of contamination which quickly collected in the new one. I was able to drain about 20mm of water from the drain screw and am waiting to empty out the solid debris when things have settled down more. I can now carry out a daily inspection of the state of the fuel.
